Coleridge Downs

Coleridge Downs is a large scale, progressive farming business located in the Rakaia Gorge of Mid Canterbury. Each year, we proudly train and mentor eight farm cadets, sharing our passion for agriculture and providing opportunities for young people to enter the industry.

Our operation spans two farms within the Rakaia Gorge, along with a third property approximately one hour away in the Waimakariri Valley, near Springfield. Together, these farms cover around 9,500 hectares, run 45,000 stock units and employ 19 staff.

Each year, we offer four cadet placements to high school leavers for a two-year cadetship program. Cadets receive hands-on practical training by working alongside our experienced senior staff in the day-to-day management of our sheep, beef, and deer operations.

In addition to practical experience, cadets work towards achieving formal qualifications with the support of our full-time Training Manager, who also oversees pastoral care. This holistic approach is supported by our dedicated senior team, all of whom take pride in the development and growth of the cadets.

To further support cadet wellbeing, we provide an onsite cook, ensuring nutritious meals and a supportive living environment.
